In 1941, the African-American community-acquired and transferred land to the School Board to establish the Douglass School, dedicated to providing secondary education for their children. Until the end of segregation in 1968, Douglass School remained the sole African-American high school in Loudoun County. This historic building is registered in both the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
The Douglass High School Renovation project has been advancing in its design process since the last public meeting held in February 2020, which was prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have taken into account the feedback received during that meeting to shape the design. Building upon the initial input, LCPS has prepared a presentation on Commemorative Concepts, which we are now sharing electronically due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic
